Towne Mall, which opened its doors in October 1985, is the dominant regional shopping destination in an eight-county area in central Kentucky, with the nearest mall 40 miles away. Elizabethtown is situated in the east-central section of Hardin County, which has emerged as the major retail core of central Kentucky. In fact, five of Kentucky’s major highways converge in Elizabethtown, making Towne Mall the destination of choice for the Central Kentucky trade area.

The mall serves as the hub of commercial and retail activity along North Dixie Highway (U.S. Highway 31W), one of the most traveled thoroughfares in the state. Guests at Towne Mall enjoy over 50 places to shop and dine, with the four anchors joined by such popular specialty stores as Aeropostale, American Eagle, Bath & Body Works, Pacific Sunwear, Victoria’s Secret and Gap Outlet.

Located at the center of several major markets—with Louisville 44 miles to the north, Lexington 90 miles northeast, and Nashville 130 miles south—the Elizabethtown area also has its share of important tourist destinations. Lincoln’s Birthplace is in nearby Hodgenville, while Fort Knox—the home of the famous ‘Gold Vault’ and the Patton Museum—is only 12 miles north of the mall.
